By the end of the 19th century, Lucerne had become a popular vacation destination. People traveled from all over the world to spend time in central Switzerland and to admire the unrivaled location and beauty of Lucerne and its surroundings. The stream of visitors gave the local economy a boost – throughout the city, magnificent hotels set in beautiful grounds and imposing buildings sprang up. The city flourished, and the people of Lucerne experienced previously unknown prosperity. People were optimistic and believed in a future with technology.

In these times of change, Carl F. Bucherer opened his first store which attracted customers from all over the world. By listening to them, taking their individual needs and wishes into account and by carrying these out, the business continued to grow and develop. The range of visitors and the open-mindedness of the city strongly influenced his life and work.

Today, two generations down the line, the Carl F. Bucherer brand is still located in Lucerne. Jürg G. Bucherer, grandson of the original Carl F. Bucherer, owns the company, one which has in the meantime become a worldwide affair. He continues to implement his grandfather’s visions, proudly ensuring continuation of the family business.
